How it works

Gift Cards, Coupons & Credit, step by step

1

Set the amounts you actually sell

Set your amounts, like $50, $100 and $250, or let buyers pick within a range you set. The store opens only once Stripe can take money.

2

Customers buy from a link that previews as your shop

Switch on the store and get a short link for your bio, a text or the counter. It previews as your store, with your name.

3

The card is a page they can forward

The buyer forwards the link as the gift. The code appears only once payment settles. Revoke a link and the card keeps its money.

4

Redeem it, and it becomes credit you spend down

Type the code and pick the customer. The card redeems once, even if two people scan together, and its value lands as store credit.

A coupon is a real line, not a fudge

A coupon is a negative line on the invoice, so tax computes on the discounted subtotal. The discount freezes once applied. One coupon per invoice.

Caps counted from the redemptions, every time

Set a total limit, a per-customer limit, a start date and an expiry. Caps are counted on every apply. Voided invoices burn no slot.

Credit is a ledger, and a ledger can't drift

A credit balance is never a stored number. It is the sum of every entry, so two people can't spend the same $50 twice.

Your Stripe, and the money counts once

Store sales go to your own Stripe account. The page shows what you sold separately from unredeemed cards you still owe. Cards carry no expiry.

What you get

Gift cards sell while you're closed, straight into your own Stripe account

The link you hand out previews as your shop, not as a wall of token

A discount can't outrun your tax, your totals, or money already collected

A 50-use code gets used 50 times, not 51

Credit balances always match their own history, with nothing to reconcile by hand

Every unredeemed card you've sold shows up as one liability figure

Gift Cards, Coupons & Credit questions

Do I need Stripe to sell gift cards?

To sell online, yes: your own connected account, so money lands in your Stripe balance. Counter sales need no Stripe. Create the card, record the cash and text the buyer the link.

What stops the same card being redeemed twice?

Redeeming the card and granting the credit happen in one transaction, and only an active card can be claimed. If two people scan at once, the second is told it's already redeemed.

Can a customer over-use a coupon code?

No. Caps are counted from actual redemptions every time a code is applied, so no stored counter can drift. Redemptions on a voided invoice don't burn a slot.

What happens to the leftover when a $200 card pays a $120 job?

It stays as credit on that customer. The card's whole value moves to their account, you apply what the job needs, and the ledger keeps the remaining $80.
