How it works

Inventory & Job Cost, step by step

1

Put what you actually use on the shelf

Add a product with a name, a unit, your cost and a reorder point. The starting count becomes the first line of its history.

2

Receive it, from a purchase order or straight off the truck

Build a purchase order, then one Receive turns every line into stock and updates the catalog cost. It only works once, so nothing lands twice.

3

Record what the car took, on the job

Log materials on the appointment: pick the product, type the quantity. The cost is frozen into that entry, so later repricing never rewrites a finished job.

4

Work the shelf, and reorder before it bites

Low and negative counts float to the top. Type the real shelf count into the recount box and the ledger logs the difference as an adjustment.

Stock is a ledger, not a number somebody types over

Every change is its own line with the quantity, when, who and a note. The count is the sum of those lines, so nothing gets overwritten.

A negative count is information, so it shows

Stock can go negative, and Strata flags it on the shelf rather than hold a false number. A recount settles it as a labeled adjustment.

Cost is money, and it's gated like money

Technicians can read the shelf and record stock. Costs show only to people who can see payments, and vendors and orders need your settings permission.

Units and quantities, on purpose

Everything is a quantity with a unit, so coating, pads, film and towels work the same. It is not roll-weight tracking or cut optimization for film.

What you get

Know what's on the shelf without walking out to count it

Every finished job carries what it actually used, at the price you paid that day

Reorder before a booked job finds an empty shelf; the Monday email names the count

Any count you doubt reads back movement by movement, with who and when

Your crew records materials at the car, and nobody sees your cost unless you hand them that key

Inventory & Job Cost questions

Will my technicians see what I pay for materials?

No. Technicians can read the shelf and record what a job used. Costs need the payments permission, which they don't carry by default. Vendors and purchase orders need your settings permission.

What do I do when the count on the screen is wrong?

Type the number you see into the recount box. Strata writes the difference as an adjustment in the history, not a silent overwrite. A negative count stays visible until you settle it.

Does it track film by the roll or work out my cuts?

No, and that's deliberate. Strata counts units and quantities, so everything on your shelf works the same. Roll weight and cut optimization belong to plotter software.

Do I have to raise a purchase order to add stock?

No. With no paperwork, add what came in straight on the product. Purchase orders are for deliveries with a vendor and a price, where one Receive posts every line.
