Tipping in Strata

How it works

Tipping, step by step

1

Turn it on, or leave it on

Tipping starts on for detailing, mobile detailing, tint, and wrap shops, and off for shops that don't get tipped. One Settings switch changes it any time.

2

Set the choices

Pick up to four percentages. Defaults are 15, 20, and 25, priced against the amount being paid. Allow a custom amount or hide it.

3

The customer picks, then pays

No tip is selected first, so nobody tips by accident. Stripe Checkout shows the invoice and tip as two lines. Deposits never ask for a tip.

4

It lands where it belongs

Tips are recorded beside the payment, never inside it, so the invoice total stays exact. Enter cash tips when you record a payment by hand.

Your revenue stays your revenue

Revenue, invoice balances, commission, and accounting sync all read the payment amount, so a tip never inflates them. Finance shows tips on their own card.

Technicians see their tips

Each job's tips are split evenly across the people who worked it. The earnings table shows a Tips column, and a tip is never commissioned.

Track it any way you like

Explore has a Tips metric by client, staff, location, and vehicle. Settings keeps a running count: lifetime, last 30 days, average, and biggest.

Built not to get in the way of the payment

The prompt is part of the invoice page, so nothing needs installing. If a tip doesn't add up, the payment goes through without one.

What you get

Customers who want to tip can, right where they pay.

Every tip is tracked on its own and never counted as revenue.

Technicians see their tips beside their pay without a side tally.

You control the percentages, the custom amount, the wording, and the switch.

Tipping questions

Do tips change my invoice totals or reports?

No. A tip is stored beside the payment, never inside the amount. Invoice balances, revenue, commission, and QuickBooks sync read the payment amount only.

Can I turn tipping off?

Yes. One switch in Settings turns it off for the whole shop the moment you save. Your percentages are kept for when you turn it back on.

What are the percentages based on?

The amount the customer is about to pay. Deposits never ask for a tip. The prompt appears when the balance is paid.

How do tips reach my technicians?

Each job's tips are split evenly across the people assigned to it and shown in a Tips column. How you pay them out is up to you.
